THE STORY OF POPPY WESTON YOGA

At the age of eleven, my life changed for the better when my family moved to an amazing farm in Brogborough, Bedfordshire.

My childhood was idyllic; riding horses and being surrounded by nature. I had a traumatic event which lead me to find my dharma (life’s purpose).  Nature was such a healer for me after this happened and it opened my eye to how incredible the natural world of health could be, the farm was very much my safe space, my escape from the world outside and I was so grateful to have it. When you deal with a traumatic event in your life, it often leads to us turning to spirituality to try and find answers to the big “why?”, and I was no exception to this.

My interests were always creative and after school, I headed off to university to study Art History. I started to feel unwell in my last year so I headed back to the farm, and this was when my real interest in yoga began.

In 2006 I completed Yoga Teacher Training with Carol Smith in Milton Keynes. The training not only included physical yoga practices, as a lot of people know yoga to be, like downward dog and tree, but we had to also complete practices such as karma yoga and keep our car clean! Reading spiritual texts and going to as many classes as possible.

In Milton Keynes we are very lucky with lots of knowledgeable teachers, for example; Kevin Silous, Rachel White & Brigitte Riley whom I used to enjoy attending. There seemed to be a big community of yoga teachers and there were always workshops and classes to attend.

The same year I completed my teacher training I also had my first daughter, which was an opportunity for me to get into another side of yoga; both pre & post-natal & baby yoga too with wonderful teachers such as Uma Dinsmore-Tuli and Nadia Naran from Tri Yoga.

By this point in time, we had converted parts of the farm away from actual farming and my sister and I were now running a busy Bed & Breakfast + Conference Centre, where we hosted yoga days and retreats.

I continued to train in healing practices such as Reiki, & Indian Head Massage. I became passionate about homoeopathy and alternative therapies. I did start training as a homoeopath but with a busy life I found that I couldn’t quite focus, but it’s still a massive part of my life; I use homoeopathy on my children, my pets and myself & my parents too.

In 2013 I had my second daughter; and soon realised, as so many do, how challenging it is to keep up daily yoga practices with a young family, but once again the wonderful local yoga community came to the rescue with teachers such as; Greg, Aneta, Sarah and I got back into more regular practice. Even completed a Yin Course with Sarah Lo, and then Covid came!

YouTube soon became a favourite and I was following a lot of Sarah Beth Yoga, which I would highly recommend.

Recently I completed a totally inspiring Kundalini Yoga for Real Life Course with Maya Fiennes [here’s a link to the book which goes along with the course in case you’re interested]. This course I did this on zoom, but it was amazing and changed my life, Maya Fiennes really does make Kundalini Yoga accessible to all. I now dedicate myself to a daily mantra mediation practice.

I would say my yoga style is an eclectic mix of all the yoga styles I love.

My sessions focus on making people feel good. After suffering from health problems on and off throughout my life I hope to give people tools for self-love, finding their own joy and nurturing themselves whilst practising some yoga postures.

Om Shanti, Shanti, Namaste 🙏🏽

(wishing you peace from my heart to your heart)
